Pattern Recognition

Beginning April 4th, SAUERS presents “Pattern Recognition”, a group show featuring works by Billie Clarken, Theo Goldbach, and Jonathan Joosten, with curation by Chris Erik Thomas.

Taking its title from William Gibson’s 2003 cyberpunk novel, the exhibition examines the affective heft and the recursive hauntings of branded images. The three artists on view channel vintage action figurines, old tabloid covers, uncanny artificial scents, and bygone late-night TV shows: transitory signifiers that have long ceased to fulfill their intended commercial purpose, yet remain lodged in the subconscious. Freed from context, these seductive signals divert, glitch and mutate, oscillating between private memory and collective consciousness as we follow the pressing impulse to assign them meaning.
