Grimmuseum
Winter Break: 18.12.16 - 03.02.2017
Artist-run, non-profit space in the rooms of the former Luise Grimm museum. A changing team of artists and curators runs exhibitions, performances and sound-art installations under the direction of Enrico Centonze.
The Artist Luise Grimm was a Berlin painter (1900-1991), who lived and worked in the house on Fichte Str 2 for 28 years long. After her death the Luise Grimm museum was dedicated to her work and existed from 2000 to 2007. The space remained empty for two and a half years until the new space was opened in 2010 by Enrico Centonze and now bpigs editor Despina Stokou, who run the curatorial program from 2010-2012. The name Grimmuseum resumed a part of the former’s museum name in a way of keeping the tradition as an art space and at the same time create a bridge to the contemporary discourse. The original museum surface of 120 square meters and 70 square meters cellar area were extended next door in May 2010 with an exhibition space by altogether 220 square meters and 95 square meters cellar area. The GRIMMUSEUM forms an interdisciplinary platform for the art community in Berlin, showcasing young as well as established artists, extending the borders of curatorial practise and dialogue between creating and showing art. The GRIMMUSEUM is organized by artists for artists and its activities is divided into 3 categories: visual, performance and sound art.
